Studio Services

At Random Awesome! we want our clients to be extremely satisfied with our services. Our focus on satisfaction guides everything we do, from how we structure projects to how we conduct the recording process itself. We provide a sound and experience that is custom tailored to best serve each of our unique clients.

Contracted services always include recording, editing, mixing, and mastering unless otherwise specified. We expect a typical project to include drums, two guitars, bass, and vocals. Additional instrument recording (cello, keyboards, harmonica, spoons, etc.) can also be arranged, but please keep in mind this may require additional time and increase the cost of the project.

We are willing to work with your schedule to provide an ideal recording experience. An average studio day will fall between 10:00am and 8:00pm. When necessary, we can work longer and later hours to meet extreme deadlines.

Clients are encouraged to take short breaks as often as needed. Longer mealtime breaks may also be built in to the daily studio schedule.

Recording Process Outline

Drums

Most projects start with drum recording and tracking. Typically, the drummer and one or two guitarists play through the songs. This process normally takes 2-4 days for a full-length album. After drums are recorded, the audio tracks are quantized (even without click-tracks) and ready to be fine tuned.

Guitar & Bass

Once the drums are quantized, we move on to recording all the guitar tracks. The flexibility of our recording process allows for highly customized tone. We can change the rig through which the guitarist recorded after the final takes are in place. For example, if a guitarist decides he doesn’t like the sound of his JCM900 half stack, it can be switched to a Soldono, Diezel, Bogner, Engl, Mesa, etc. all without having to rerecord. Recording guitars typically takes 1-2 work weeks to complete, but it depends very heavily on the complexity of the song and abilities of the artist.

Vocals & Other Instruments

If the project involves other instruments and sounds (such as keyboard, brass, strings, etc.), they will usually be recorded before moving on the vocals. Once all the instruments have been recorded, a rough mix will be assembled for the vocalist(s) to use. Vocals are recorded in a private booth adjacent to the main studio area. This provides a comfortable and personal space that helps bring out the best performance.

Editing, Mixing, & Mastering

Once everything has been recorded, additional effects may be applied and fine editing may be done to tighten up the performances. Bands can reference other albums with preferable mixes as a goal for us to match sonically. We have equipment that can analyze the EQ spectrum of any song or album and match it with great accuracy.

Mixing and mastering is typically done over the course of several weeks after the performers have left the studio. Once the master is well-balanced, it’s sent to the band for approval. The band can then submit a list of any changes or tweaks they’d like. These will be addressed and an updated mix will be provided to the band for final approval. Once final approval is given and the project is paid in full, the master files are released via disc and/or secure private download.

We are wholly committed to doing whatever we can to provide the best mastered recording possible. We know that this not only benefits you as a client, but us as a studio too. We firmly believe that the happier you are with your mix, the more likely you are to recommend our services to others. Any unsatisfactory areas of the recording will be addressed to ensure you leave with a professional and cohesive final product.
